I Could Not Work From Home

I could not work from home. I could not work from home for one very simple reason: I would not be able to drive into work.

There are two stop lights and lots of open space between my house and my job. I may dodge a deer or two but I do not dodge traffic, merge and exit, or stop and start. With a day care drop off, I make a total of 5 turns over 12 miles. Without a drop-off, my total turns drop down to 3.

When I drive, I think. When I think, I get clarity. As clarity approaches, it is often met with a big AHA. AHAs are cool and when they occur, my world seems to jump back in alignment. AHAs happen. And I am almost always driving when they do.

I guess I could work from home; I would just have to take the long way to work each day.

This is interesting because several weeks ago, I did a traffic inventory of my commute. Here are some facts: 2 stop signg, 2 traffic yields, 2 yield signs, and 20 traffic lights.

    Longest nonstop distance, 22.7 miles.

Finally, 7 left turns, 8 right turns, and 6 straightransitions.

All for a total commute of 35.1 miles.

At least I start my driving day early - 6 AM.

Sounds like the commute is good idea time for you. I hope you've got a small digital recorder to capture the good ideas you get.

A digital recorder would probably be better than the green post-it pad I have in the front seat!

I think that if a life is worth living it is worth recording. Given this I have been recording a diary for the past 10 years. If you stick at it it becomes a habit. These days you can even use some of the content in podcasts! So come on Lisa go get a recorder and start recording your journey!
